Laurits Bach Sørensen has scaled transformative technology companies for 30 years, spearheading multiple exits, spinouts, turnarounds and IPOs. His systematic and self-developed approach to navigating complex and highly transformative market environments led to the establishment of Nordic Alpha Partners, one of the world’s first and largest growth-stage private equity funds, dedicated exclusively to industrial greentech, deeptech and resilience technologies.
Laurits holds a master’s degree in management of Innovation and Business
Development from Copenhagen Business School. He lives in Copenhagen with his wife and two sons.
Gustav Højmark-Jensen has worked at the intersection of finance and journalism for nearly a decade. As a former private equity and investigative M&A reporter, he covered thousands of transactions and assessed hundreds of value creation models.
As Head of Platforms at Nordic Alpha Partners, he designs and leads the firm’s
broader institutional platform beyond direct investments. His work spans strategic partnerships with global investors, universities and industry stakeholders, strengthening long-term value creation.
He holds a Master’s degree in Media, Journalism and Globalisation from Aarhus
University and City St. George’s University of London and has been based in London since 2019.
This book is for the tech pioneers, investors and board members who operate on the edge of transformation, where decision data is scarce and change is constant.
Changing the Math draws on 30 years of experience tackling the pain points of transformative hardtech businesses. It takes you on a systematic journey on how to establish the foundations for hypergrowth and de-risk expansion. It gives you effective tools to diligently manage and sustain momentum. It presents methods to capitalise on opportune moments and achieve dominant market positions.
Rather than being developed by marketing professors, this book and its models were developed by an operator who has spent his entire career on the most complex battlefields of business. In environments where it is necessary to make thousands of decisions with an above-normal success rate, proven models become a lifeline.
Forget what you know from business school. Conventional theory was not designed to navigate a reality of rapid technological change, hypergrowth, and high working capital tie-downs. In fact, conventional theory is likely to paralyse the fast-paced decision-making you need in this space.
With models and frameworks such as the Growth Formula, the Technology Adoption Model, the GP/CoE Ratio, Hypotheses-Based Growth Scaling, Business Trajectory Management, Value Peaking and the Dominance Diamond, this book is a complete, end-to-end tool kit that simplifies the challenge of scaling transformative technology.
Changing the Math serves as the playbook of Nordic Alpha Partners, the world’s first private equity firm dedicated to scaling transformative hardtech companies in the growth phase. Drawing on robust empirical evidence from the author’s executive track record, including detailed investment case studies and multiple strategic exits, among them an exit to Tesla, the book’s concepts have already been adopted as core curriculum at several academic institutions, and the tool kit underpins an executive programme at Europe’s leading technical university.

“Laurits’ perspectives on hypergrowth and how to attain and manage commercial scaling of new and developing technologies is unlike anything I’ve come across in the last 20 years. It’s engagingly practical and immediately applicable. It is well-reasoned and is obviously built on decades of experience and insight”.
Mark Blyth, Professor of International Economics and Director of the William R. Rhodes Center for International Economics and Finance at Brown University
“Finally, a business book that doesn’t just describe the storm – it hands you the instruments to fly through it. Changing the Math is a no-nonsense playbook for anyone building the next generation of industrial, greentech, or scale-up businesses. If you're navigating hypergrowth, facing capital constraints, or wrestling with value chain inertia, this is your new field manual. Clear, tested, and brutally practical.”
